Friday 17 January 2014

This time of year is particularly special all around the world, a time of giving and receiving love as well as gifts. However, for many children in India it is a time when they are busy manufacturing gifts for others, working in conditions of slavery.

115 million child labourers are involved in hazardous work, while 61 million children are shut out of primary school. Education Envoy is calling on the Indian Parliament to pass the Child and Adolescent Labour Abolition Bill to abolish child labour under 14 years of age and ensure all children can go to school.

UN Global Education Envoy Gordon Brown is leading the charge to get every child learning at school around the globe. He has been tasked by Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations, to deliver on the world’s promise to ensure that every child receives the right to go to school and learn by 2015.

No child should miss out on their birthright to education because of where they live, their gender, disability, background or family’s income. Please sign the petition and head over to Education Envoy to find out more. Let’s make this particular holiday story have a happy ending
